Resolve the findings your scanner keeps reporting.
A dependency scanner tells you which package is vulnerable. It cannot tell you why the fix breaks the build, which transitive chain pulls the old version in, or what replaces a package nobody maintains.
That is engineering work, and it is the work Nortis does.
What remediation involves.
Most findings are not one-line version bumps.
- Trace each finding to the direct dependency that pulls it in
- Upgrade the parent, or pin the transitive version with an override
- Replace abandoned packages with maintained alternatives
- Update the application code that the new versions break
- Remove dependencies the application no longer uses
How we verify a fix.
A finding is closed when the scanner and the tests agree.
- Lockfile regenerated and reviewed
- Build and full test suite pass
- SCA rescan confirms the finding is gone
- No new findings introduced by the change
- Behavior checked on the paths the package touches
Keeping it closed.
Remediation without a policy fills up again.
- Dependency policy in CI
- SBOM generated on every build
- Scheduled minor and patch upgrades
- Advisory triage on a fixed cadence
Understand the technical and security risk inside your application before planning modernization.
- We use Snyk or Dependabot. Is that enough?
They are good at finding and proposing fixes. The proposals that fail, or that need code changes, are the ones that pile up. That backlog is where we help.
- What if no fixed version exists?
We check whether the vulnerable code path is used, replace the package, or isolate it, and document the decision so it can be reviewed.
