Application security & modernization

Modernize aging software before technical debt becomes security risk.

Nortis upgrades frameworks, runtimes and dependencies, remediates application-security findings and strengthens software delivery without forcing unnecessary rewrites.

The problem

Software can keep working long after it stops being healthy.

Applications often remain operational while the technology underneath them slowly becomes harder to maintain.

  • Frameworks fall behind.
  • Runtime support ends.
  • Dependencies accumulate vulnerabilities.
  • Major upgrades get postponed because nobody wants to destabilize production.
  • Security tools find problems faster than engineering teams can remediate them.

ACTIVE SUPPORT (42%), SECURITY FIXES ONLY (25%), END OF LIFE (33%)

Eventually technical debt becomes

  • Security risk
  • Operational risk
  • Release risk
  • Compliance risk
  • Recruiting difficulty
  • Maintenance cost

Nortis helps teams modernize before those risks become critical.

Application security remediation

Security tools find the vulnerabilities.
Nortis fixes the software.

Finding a vulnerable package is usually the easy part.

The difficult part is upgrading the dependency without breaking the application, resolving transitive conflicts, replacing abandoned libraries, updating affected code and proving that the system still behaves correctly.

That requires software engineering.

This is where Nortis operates.

Supply chain

Security belongs inside the software lifecycle.

Security is part of engineering. Not a separate checkbox at the end.

Risk enters at every layer an application depends on. Each layer gets a control.

AUDITABILITY
Upgrade workflow

From outdated to supported.

  1. Discover

Inventory what the application runs on.

    • frameworks
    • runtimes
    • dependencies
    • containers
    • CI/CD
    • authentication
    • external services
  2. Assess

Find what is unsupported, vulnerable or blocking.

    • unsupported components
    • known vulnerabilities
    • upgrade blockers
    • breaking changes
    • high-risk dependencies
    • architecture constraints
  3. Prioritize

Order the work by what it protects and what it risks.

    • security severity
    • business impact
    • upgrade complexity
    • support lifecycle
    • production risk
  4. Modernize

Change the foundations in small, reviewable steps.

    • framework upgrades
    • runtime upgrades
    • dependency replacements
    • code migrations
    • security fixes
    • authentication changes
    • configuration updates
  5. Verify

Prove the application still behaves correctly.

    • automated tests
    • integration tests
    • security scans
    • build validation
    • behavior verification
    • manual engineering review
  6. Ship

    Deploy through controlled delivery.

Monitor application behavior. Keep rollback paths available.

Principle

Upgrade without unnecessary rewrites.

Modernization does not automatically mean rebuilding an application from scratch.

When possible, Nortis prefers incremental modernization that preserves working business logic while replacing unsupported or risky foundations.

Keep

  • Business logic
  • Data model
  • Integrations
  • User workflows
  • Domain knowledge in the code

Replace

  • Unsupported runtime
  • End-of-life framework version

FAQ
Are you a cybersecurity company?

No. Nortis works on the application-engineering side of security: code, dependencies, builds, authentication and delivery.

We do not provide SOC, MDR, incident response, penetration testing or compliance certification.

Do you replace our security scanner?

No. Keep the tools you have.

Scanners report findings. We do the engineering that resolves them and add the checks to your pipeline so they stay resolved.

Will a major upgrade break production?

Not if it is planned and verified. We upgrade in small steps, add tests where coverage is thin, run the full verification set and release through a controlled path with rollback available.

Do you rewrite the application?

Only when a rewrite is the cheaper and safer option, and we say so in the audit.

Most modernization keeps the business logic and replaces the foundations underneath it.

Can you help with the Cyber Resilience Act?

We provide engineering support for CRA technical readiness: software inventory, SBOMs, vulnerability handling and secure delivery practices.

We do not give legal advice or certify compliance.

Do you use AI on our code?

Where it speeds up discovery, documentation, repetitive refactoring and test creation, and only within your data rules.

Every change is tested, scanned and reviewed by an engineer before release.
